General English
Our General English program focuses on the language of everyday life. It combines a practical mix of vocabulary, pronunciation, grammar, reading and writing, with an emphasis on the skills of speaking and listening.
We offer six different levels of tuition, including beginner, elementary, pre-intermediate, intermediate, upper intermediate and advanced level classes. You can expect to complete a level in approximately ten weeks, though this does depend on your level of effort and natural abiliity to learn new languages.
Your weekly timetable includes sixteen hours of set lessons focusing on the skills of listening, speaking, reading, writing and grammar, plus a further four hours of elective tuition where you get to choose from a range of options including Business English, IELTS Preparation, Australian Studies, Media Studies and more.
We use a variety of modern text books plus our own in-house teaching materials. As part of your enrolment, you will be required to pay for a text book which you will follow in class and is yours to keep at the end of your course.Your teacher will assess your progress throughout the course. The standard of your class work and homework, and your results on end-of-module tests, determine your class level for the next term of study.
Entry requirements: Minimum age 18 years. There are no other entry requirements. You will be tested on your first day at SELA and placed into the appropriate level class.
Course duration: Flexibile, choose from 2 to 60 weeks.
Mode of study: On-campus, full-time (20 hours p/week).
Class times: Monday to Thursday 8.45am - 2.30pm
